Boy Meets Boy

I had a little trepidation when I heard about "Boy Meets Boy" and decided to watch the first episode just to stay current with popular culture. Boy, was I surprised!

Since it's Tuesday and Gilmore Girls was a repeat, I started out watching Queer Eye. I have avoided this like the plague since I have a low opinion of reality TV, but I was impressed. It wasn't as flamey as I had heard - but they are still begging for acceptance from the straight world.

Then Boy Meets Boy. I was pulled in and really felt bad at the end when James had to let three of the suitors go. In the end, it was good really TV.

Then another Queer Eye. It pulled me in, too, and I was really touched at the end - but they are still begging for acceptance from the straight world.

To spend three hours watching TV with a gay slant was amazing. Usually viewers are bombarded with the straight world - even if you are gay - and it makes you feel like you're on the outside looking in. Well, tonight I was on the inside and felt empowered as a gay man. It was simple amazing and I had sense of how far the LGBT community has come. Granted, we are a novelty at the moment - but I see the day when there are several LGBT channels on the air.

But I have one concern - the quality of advertising wasn't very impressive. It reminded me of the last days of Dr. Laura and made me wonder if the RR was targeting advertisers. (I don't know if they are but will investigate.) Singer scissors and PSA are not the advertisers I expected but there were a "few" quality spots. Is it that hard to fill advertising for these shows? I also wonder who advertised on NBC during
Queer Eye? I didn't watch.

We should thank those advertisers who doesn't shy away from gay shows.

Cheers!

Tom Dempsey

PS The fact that the producers had to throw in straight suitors in Boy Meets Boy is insulting and they need to rethink their intentions. I am truly insulted by this "twist".
