2006 Gay Games Disaster

Well, Montreal has walked away from the 2006 Gay Games and I am completely floored. After Ray Hom and Margie Archer screwed me over (not to forget Rebekah Jones, Scott Hayes, Jim Marks and Stan Neal) it is looking like they have a chance to redeem themselves and pull off getting the Games for Atlanta - all the while making me look worse. Of course, that would be a mistake.

Granted, the Federation is not the easiest people to work with - with Sydney almost pulling out of the 2002 Gay Games but Sydney worked things out. Montreal could have tried harder.

I did find Mark Tewksbury to be a complete jerk when I met him in Johanessburg.

The issue now is will the Federation be able to put together a Gay Games in time for 2006 or 2007 with Montreal promising to go forward in 2006. I see this as disaster for both sides. The Games have never made money in the past and I couldn't see it succeeding in 2006 without television - which Montreal secured - so having two events with sink both.
